Holiday cottages in the Scottish Highlands

The Highlands cover most of the north of Scotland: mountains, glens, sea lochs, white beaches and some of the emptiest country in Europe. Where you stay shapes your trip, so here's how the areas differ.

Where to stay in the Highlands

Lochaber and the Road to the Isles has Fort William, Glencoe and the white sands of Arisaig and Morar. The Cairngorms and Speyside offer forests, mountains and whisky country around Aviemore and Boat of Garten. Around Inverness and Loch Ness you're central for touring. For wild coast and quiet roads, head north west to Wester Ross, Assynt and Coigach and Sutherland, or east to Ross-shire and the Black Isle.

Getting there

The A9 runs from Perth to Inverness through the Cairngorms, and trains run on the same route. Inverness Airport has flights from across the UK. The North Coast 500 starts and ends in Inverness, and the A82 runs from Glasgow to Fort William.
