Holiday cottages in Sutherland and Caithness

Sutherland and Caithness make up Scotland's far north: huge empty landscapes, white beaches, sea cliffs and some of the quietest roads in Britain. The North Coast 500 runs right through both.

Where to stay

On the north-west tip, Durness has beaches like Balnakeil and Sango Sands, Smoo Cave and a village shop and pubs within walking distance. On the east coast, Dornoch has the Royal Dornoch golf course, a cathedral and a long sandy beach. Inland near Rogart, you're among quiet hills and valleys. Caithness, further east, has Dunnet Head, mainland Britain's most northerly point, John o' Groats and the Castle of Mey, all within a day trip.

Getting there

The A9 runs north from Inverness to Dornoch in about an hour and continues up the east coast into Caithness. The Far North railway line runs from Inverness through Sutherland to Thurso and Wick. Durness is on the North Coast 500, along the north coast road.
