The hiss and crackle of the fire awaits you. So, kick off your muddy boots or leave your wetsuit at the door for an instant relax. Durness has something for everyone where you can wake up to the tantalising smell of  good coffee & freshly baked croissants from the village store before heading out to explore the stunning beaches and rugged hills on your doorstep. No matter what the weather the Cabin will meet your every need…cook up a storm while the winds huff and puff, brave our Atlantic swells on pristine beaches. A couples rustic retreat

Delectably warm for those intrepid winter visitors, a wood fired stove for ambience, and underfloor heating for generous warmth and comfort. The cabin is a warm cosy environment. Industrial style lighting for you to adapt to suit your mood. The kitchen is a hand built gorgeous mix of copper and inky back surfaces. The owners are dedicated foodies and have provided you with the tools to cook up a storm, a stunning and easy to use oven and oversized fridge…and for those who don’t want to wash up on holiday we have a slimline dishwasher. For dining, a raised butchers block with tall chairs in the open plan kitchen area flows to the lounge, comfy settees and seating, perfect for watching movies, socialising or curling up with a good book. Or take it outside and watch village life unfold on our generous covered deck. There is also a washing machine on hand in the Cabin’s in the store outside for guests use. There are two bedrooms, but we think its perfect for a couple; the double bedroom offers a quiet sanctuary should you wish to escape to a more intimate space, a handmade king-sized feather topped bed and a twin room is perfect for children or friends. The finest French linens are used throughout each room and can easily be made up as feather free if required. The Cabin is also fitted with an oversized shower and bespoke fixtures and fittings not forgetting an ample supply of indulgent bath linens.

The essence of all Mackay’s Collection of accommodation is the attention to detail! Comfortable furnishings, the use of honest mnatural materials, copper touches and deep dark black surfaces grace the kitchen or why not sit outside on the spacious covered deck and enjoy some al fresco dining in the sunshine. The wild beauty of Northern Scotland is just waiting for you; escape to The Cabin at Durness and immerse yourself in the beauty of the Highlands and its incredible landscape.

Reviews:

“The cottage was perfect for us. Would definitely recommend!”

“We found this place at short notice and we were lucky it was still available. The Cabin is a not so small house that fits max. 4, we were two, so even more space for us. It is beautifully furnished and Fiona (the owner) has a great feel for design and the combination of old and new things with a penchant for fancy items (e.g. lamps, switches, mountings in the bathroom…). The kitchen is well equipped, the living room area is cosy with an extra fire place, beds are comfortable (I really loved the “closet” in the main bedroom). To be honest, we didn’t know what to expect from a place “at the end of the world” but it turned out to be the best part of the whole journey. The nearby beaches are beautiful, the water is turquoise and crystal clear, Smoo Cave is a must and you can walk for miles over green hills counting the countless sheep (with their babies!). The Cabin is usually self-catering but we went for the B&B-option and enjoyed the delicious breakfast at the hotel. Everyone was very friendly and helpful (especially Paco, the lovely guy from Spain!) and we’d love to come back some day.”

“I initially wanted to get away from the city, all the everyday tech and to see the night sky without any light pollution.
That all happened but I wasn’t expecting to have a great night sleep. The highlight of my trip wasn’t just how beautiful and relaxing Durness was. But since my first night there I’ve been dreaming every night since.
That might not seem important, but to me that was a bonus take away.”

“We stayed at Mackay’s Rooms during our trip in Scotland. Durness is a beautiful place in northern Scotland and has amazing sand beaches. Mackay’s Rooms is a very nice place to stay. Very friendly and the rooms are ‘Amazing’, I really loved the way how the rooms are designed, within minutes you will feel like at home. The rooms have a high standard and super clean. The self-cooked breakfast was great as well. If you’re on a trip in northern Scotland. I recommend you stay here”.
