Five star location

Mint Croft offers you the best of the Isle of Skye. Spectacular natural beauty, wildlife, culture and history in a traditional Highland crofting village.

Geary, on the peninsula of Waternish, is a typical township on the Isle of Skye. Situated on the north west of the island, it offers spectacular natural beauty, wildlife, culture and history in a traditional Highland crofting village. The Isle of Skye is a truly magical place. It is consistently named one of the world’s most beautiful islands. The largest of the Inner Hebrides, Skye is celebrated for its dramatic coastline, formidable Cuillin mountains and captivating wildlife.

Mint Croft is surrounded by the spectacular sea views of Loch Snizort stretching out uninterrupted to the islands of Harris and Lewis. Spot Minke Whale, Dolphins and Sea Eagles from the croft. Crofting is traditional, small-scale farming, unique to the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. Mint Croft is a six-acre croft with a share of the common hill-grazing of 920 acres. Shaz is the Grazings Clerk for the township.

Many of the Gaelic place names on Waternish have Norse roots, from the not-so-welcome arrival of the Vikings in 794. Neolithic structures can be found on Waternish and across the island. Known as Scotland’s “Dinosaur Isle”, Skye is rich in fossils from Middle Jurassic era. Culturally, there is a strong tradition of folk music and Gaelic language.

The soul soothing views from Mint Croft and tranquility of the location are the perfect antedote to a busy life. Walk, talk, relax, explore; there’s plenty to occupy you during your stay. Pack a picnic and head to some of the islands special places. Seek out Flora MacDonald’s memorial, just behind the Museum of Island Life. Scale the Cuillins, visit distilleries, dine out on Michelin stars, try langoustines or hand dived scallops fresh from the local boats. Visit local exhibitions, studios and galleries galore where you can meet tanners of sheepskins, dyers of wool, weavers and knitters, potters and artists. Famous sites also include Dunvegan Castle and gardens, learn about the magic fairy flag, the fairy glen, fairy bridge and the fairy pools. “We stayed in the Blackhouse  in early November. We loved the property. They’ve done a wonderful job sympathetically renovating the property to luxurious modern standards while maintaining its historical character. The setting of the croft is dramatic and beautiful, along the coast, with a view for miles. Incredible night sky. Highly, highly recommend!”

“Ali and Shaz have a wonderful set-up! The cottages are beautiful, clean and highlight the amazing surroundings. As hosts, they were available to answer questions and provide great local knowledge. Close to some amazing restaurants in Loch Bay and the best parts of Skye. Truly a five-star experience, can’t go wrong with a stay at Mint Croft.”

“Excellent spot. Great spot for a home base, in the heart of the Scottish foodie movement and close to local  boat rides,  Harris and beyond. Local restaurants are top shelf. The hosts are very knowledgeable, so just ask. Highly recommended!”

“Quiet location. Excellent views overlooking the Minch. Decor and furnishing are excellent & the bed is very comfortable. Very relaxing place to stay on Skye far from the maddening crowds.”

“We came to Skye to elope in Fairy Glen and could not have been happier with our stay at Mint Croft. The view from the Blackhouse Suite is amazing no matter the time of day and changes all day long.  It’s located in a remote area, but close to several amazing restaurants. Definitely unforgettable, I’d recommend a stay here to anyone!”
