Wildlife and outdoor activities at Coopers Knowe House

There is plenty of wildlife to see at Roshven. The bird life is extremely varied, with both land and sea birds, and red deer are very common – one or two might even wander into the garden as darkness falls! Perhaps a little rarer are pine martens, pole cats and even the possibility of a genuine ‘wild cat’ if you are extremely quiet and observant after dark (in a recent TV programme, Kate Humble came to Roshven to observe and film a family of wild cats!). Many guests have reported glimpses of otters in the loch at different times of the year, whilst at sea it is possible to see dolphins, basking sharks and seals.

Whatever the weather or your choice of holiday activity Coopers Knowe is an ideal Scottish Highland retreat to base yourself. From the games room in the annexe, the private estate that surrounds you, immediate access to Loch Ailort and the proximity to outdoor adventures at the Nevis Range; there’s something special on offer for everyone. Set within its own, private 60 acre estate Coopers Knowe is located on the shores of Loch Ailort; with so much to explore within the grounds and direct access to the sea water loch, if you wish to do so, you needn’t leave the estate during your stay. It is very easy to arrive and simply enjoy the house and the stunning surrounding scenery and perhaps take a gentle stroll to the loch if the weather suits. The house is within around a 45-minute drive of Fort William Mallaig and the Ardnamurchan Peninsula on the West Coast of Scotland are also within easy reach. Fort William is known as the outdoor capital of the UK owing to the range of outdoor activities on offer. Guests comments :

“The house was very spacious with fantastic views. Good location with plenty of day trips not too far. Beach is on the door step and many great walks can be had from the house. Excellent communication from the owner. The games room is a good bonus.”

“Lovely house, lovely place and splendidly relaxing environment in which to spend a few days. Particularly well-equipped house and very good instructions.”

“This is a really special place, both the location and the house itself. It’s so comfortable and well equipped and great for a family group. Having good public rooms means there is plenty space for socialising. The ground floor bedroom was ideal for my elderly father and the rest of us were very happy with our bedrooms and en-suites. The outside space is fabulous, being able to walk along the beach and enjoy the stunning scenery was a real treat for the humans and the dogs. Looking forward to a return visit.”

“We were looking for a substantial, quality property in which to celebrate my 70th birthday with the family. We were a party of ten adults (ages ranging from 39 to 69) plus our darling fifteen-month-old granddaughter. The location was also important to us as we wanted to enjoy some tranquillity with stunning views. The property was perfectly set up for our party – even the extra bathroom was utilised. We loved the massive lounge which was so comfortable and where we chilled out in the evenings. We didn’t make much use of the separate television lounge nor the well-appointed games room which is in a separate building. We ate in most evenings and found the kitchen worked well, although we did have to store some of our considerable alcohol supplies on the porch as we couldn’t squeeze it all in the fridge. The bulk of our shopping was done either at Morrison’s in Fort William or the Co-Op in Mallaig. The family all loved their rooms, in particular the two large rooms at each end of the property with their balconies and views over Loch Ailort. We would certainly recommend the property to like-minded families, but would choose to visit in the summer months when we could enjoy the outdoor facilities and activities on offer and perhaps see more of the local wildlife (it was mid-December and we only had about 61/2 hours of daylight). There was a nice touch of a welcome pack provided by the owners, who had also arranged for the house to be dressed for Christmas. Thank you!”

“We had a lovely family time celebrating our parents diamond wedding. The house is very easy to enjoy. The kitchen has all the tools and equipment. The lounge gave us lots of space to sit and reminisce with breath-taking views. Family walks to the beach and darts and pool tournaments in the games room kept us all entertained. Thank-you for helping us to make Mum and Dad’s day so special.”
