Tigh Ruaraidh
A stunning coastal bolthole in Applecross with million dollar views of the Inner Sound to the islands of Raasay, Rona, Skye and the Outer Hebrides. For the gentlest of days and tranquil of locations you won’t get much better than Tigh Ruaraidh on the coast of the north Applecross Peninsula. Being one of only five homes in Lonbain, the house is situated in a small Highland township just off the remote and rugged north coast road of the Applecross Peninsula in the Scottish Highlands. Sleeping 6 guests, all main rooms boast stunning sea views across the Inner Sound to the islands of Raasay, Rona, Skye and the Outer Hebrides. The property is so deliciously comfortable and cosy that couples looking for a romantic escape with room to stretch out will feel equally at home here. The house has full central heating and is furnished to an extremely high standard and there’s 2 woodburning (Morso and Charnwood) stoves for curling up beside on cooler nights.
Cooks paradise
The fully refurbished Shaker style kitchen is a cooks paradise! Solid granite worktops induction hob, built-in Neff ‘Slide’n Hide’ single oven, microwave and warming drawer, Everhot electric range. American-style fridge freezer, dishwasher, food processor, electric hand mixer offer the perfect place to enjoy cooking with the fresh natural produce available locally. Families can gather round the dining area with large solid oak table and spend quality time together discussing their days adventures and planning tomorrows activities. The large TV in the sitting room has a Sky TV package and sports package providing all the entertainment you could want. The sitting room has a high cathedral-style ceiling giving a sense of space and light. It is comfortably furnished with two sofas and armchairs. Throw open the large patio window which opens directly onto the terrace. The owners have thoughtfully provided a small library of books to cater for all tastes includes reference and historical books of the area, wildlife and bird guides and some children’s books and novels.
The bedrooms
The ground floor bedroom has a super king-size bed which can be configured into two full size single beds on request. An adjacent bathroom with bath, walk-in shower, washbasin, w.c. and electric underfloor heating is lovely and warm underfoot. These rooms together, create an ideal nanny /granny flat or the perfect room for a couple in your group with a baby. The ground floor also hosts a cloakroom with washbasin and w.c. and there’s a utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer for guests’ use. The entrance lobby makes the ideal space for hanging coats and storing muddy boots and walking gear. Upstairs there are three further bedrooms. A king-size bed in the main double bedroom, a twin-bedded room (2x 3′ single beds) and a single bedroom. All have storage and hanging space. There is also a shower room with washbasin and w.c., plus heated towel rail for the upstairs guests. A cot, high chair and stair gate are available if needed and the garden is fully secure.
Tigh Ruaraidh stands on its own in the tiny township of Lonbain, 7 miles north of the village of Applecross. The walking is unparalleled whether its low level or physical ascent that you seek. There are a number of short walks around the Applecross estate and further afield there are strolls on the old coast path and walks to deserted villages on the South of the peninsula. For a real work out you can head to The Torridon Mountains, which include the Munros Beinn Eighe, Liathach and Beinn Alligin, which are just an hour away. It’s a wildlife lovers and bird watchers haven with everything from otters, red deer and pine martens to buzzards and eagles up above.
Travel directions
The Applecross peninsula is in the North West Scottish Highlands. Applecross can be reached by road from both Edinburgh via Inverness and Glasgow via Fort William. Alternatively it is possible to take a train from Edinburgh to Inverness and hire a car for the final part of the journey. There is also Inverness Airport, which is used by a number of the low cost airlines.
RATES :
Tigh Ruaraidh is from £985 per week rising to £1850 dependent on numbers in your party.
What’s included: Electricity, central heating, bedlinen, towels, Wi-Fi use, toiletries, coal and logs. As mobile phone reception can be patchy locally, guests are allowed reasonable use of the landline phone with calls up to the value of £10 p.w. Dog owners should be aware that sheep graze in areas surrounding the property throughout the year. There is an additional charge of £20 per dog. A deposit of £100 is payable upon booking. Payment can be made by cheque or bank transfer only. The balance of the rental charge due will be payable one month before the reserved start date.
