Torranbuie is a typical Victorian Farmstead, there’s a date on the Steading of 1887 but there’s been a Farm at the location going back to the 1700’s. Both the Steading and the Farmhouse have been restored to provide spacias and comfortable family accommodation. The Farm occupies a plot of 3 acres, the house has a secure grass paddock of 1/3 acre directly in front, perfect for children and dogs.

Strathdon is better described as a parish occupied along the river Don which rises in the foothills of the Grampian Mountains flowing some 60 miles to the coast near Aberdeen. The Don is fished along most of it’s length for both Salmon and Trout. On the last Saturday in August the Lonach Games and Gathering takes place with a full program of Games, Dancing and Music. What makes the Gathering special the world over is the march of the Lonach Highlanders in full military regalia with swords and pikes. They assemble early in Bellabeg to march up the Glen, calling at a number of large houses for refreshment. Having been on the march in the 70’s drinking large glasses of whiskey early in the morning is a challenge. The marchers go around the games arena to open the games and recover from their exertions. A single track road leads from the main A944 to Torranbuie, parking is adjacent the road which is ploughed in the winter, at a thousand feet we can get heavy snow.

The Cottage is very well insulated and has a oil fired AGA Cooker in a very large Country Kitchen providing constant heat and hot water. A sitting room with a Wood Stove is off the Kitchen with a TV and all the usual gadgets. Wifi is also available with Data Transfer on mobiles. The family Bathroom is on the ground floor with twin hand basins, shower, bath and WC. There is a Bedroom next to the Bathroom with twin single beds, all the rooms look out over the front Garden.

At the back door is a large glass house used for plants in the summer and logs in the winter. The main Bedrooms are upstairs 1 with a double and one with 2 singles. For comfort there’s a bathroom between the Bedrooms with a WC and hand Basin.

Strathdon is well placed for touring with Aberdeen, Inverness and the Moray coast within an hour and twenty minutes. All the outdoor activities are available and listed on this site.
