About this listing

Despite its name, The Wee End is a spacious two-bedroom cottage tucked away on an Easter Ross farm and from inside, your party can enjoy an airy living space, wood-burning stove, and sweeping views from every window that include livestock. The outdoors offer all the excitement of a working farm, and the historic Fearn Abbey is only a two-minute walk from the cottage. Less than an hour from Inverness, The Wee End is a quiet retreat and serves as the perfect base for exploring the Easter Ross Peninsula.

In the kitchen, a welcome hamper bursting with delicious local foods will be waiting upon your arrival. Staying in the heart of Highland agricultural country means that the produce you find here is as fresh as it comes. For a self-catering holiday, the fully stocked kitchen means that your party will be able to prepare homemade food from some of the freshest ingredients Scotland has on offer. The living space includes a wooden dining table and chairs set for four to relish these meals.

Decorated in a fresh Scandinavian style with plenty of Scottish flair, this cottage is designed for relaxation. An open-plan kitchen and living room are open to the eaves and give plenty of space for your party to spend time together. You can enjoy idyllic farm scenery and views of cattle, Hebridean sheep, and even some Highland cows. Without even stepping out the door, you can watch the livestock graze. Create a cozy ambiance with the wood-burning stove and the included firewood, kindlers and matches.  A smart television and Wi-Fi throughout the property mean that you can stay connected and enjoy your favorite shows during your vacation.

Both bedrooms include a sliding door with direct patio access, picturesque farm views, and plenty of natural light. While most vacation bedrooms do not give you much choice regarding bed configuration, your party can decide whether two twin beds or a  super king-sized bed would work better. The shared shower space features fantastic water pressure, which is heated via an eco-friendly biomass heating system.

If you prefer to be outdoors, soak in the sunshine on a south-facing patio. A barbecue grill, fire pit, and patio furniture mean that you can enjoy food and fellowship in the countryside. If prior arrangements are made, you are welcome to bring one well-behaved dog. With or without a furry companion, indulging in a turn around the garden will lead to blissful serenity.

Starting your Easter Ross Peninsula expedition with a trip to the beach is easy – you just have to decide which to visit first.  Within a ten minute drive, you can be at any of four different sandy beaches. Drive further, and you are within reach of even more beaches. A stay at The Wee End means it is possible to explore a new sandy beach every day of your stay.

Beyond the beach, Easter Ross Peninsula is famous for golf, history, and good whisky. If you or anyone in your party enjoys golfing, there are 17 different golf courses within an hour’s drive. For those who have a passion for history, Easter Ross Peninsula is known for its Pictish stones and striking castles. From prehistoric times to royal pilgrimages, the museum Tain Through Time includes an engaging audio tour. Visiting Dunrobin Castle is like a trip to a real-life fairytale castle. With some of the finest distilleries in the world on your doorstep, you can sample some unforgettable spirits. Globally acclaimed for creating some of the best whisky in the world, Glenmorangie is only a ten-minute drive away from The Wee End.

Of course, for those who prefer being active in nature, there are plenty of outdoor adventures to discover. Try climbing the 1,046-meter Ben Wyvis or explore a generous swath of the NC500 road trip. For a fun-filled day out, take the ferry to Cromarty and book an eco-tour. You might even spot frolicking dolphins while out on the water. Cromarty is also filled with charming shops and delightful restaurants.

Although The Wee End is located away from the hustle and bustle on a farm, it is not very far from civilization. The Royal Burgh of Tain is only five minutes away. For homemade food as beautiful as it is delicious, Greens Restaurant in Tain transforms locally sourced ingredients into amazing lunches and dinners. While in Tain, stop in at Tain Pottery, which offers a variety of hand-painted ceramics that reflect the unspoiled natural beauty found throughout the area.

Traveling the other direction from The Wee End will take you to Balintore and even more adventures. Explore exquisite Scottish craftsmanship at ANTA Pottery. With a wide variety of handcrafted textiles, ceramics, and other housewares, finding the perfect souvenir is easy at ANTA. While in Balintore, check out The Balintore Inn for robust pub fare in a dining area overlooking the sea. If you look closely, you might even spot a dolphin or two.

The Wee End is the ideal destination for a party of four both to unwind on the farm and to explore the Easter Ross Peninsula. For groups up to 14, you can also arrange to rent the adjoining Mill End. Whether you choose to kick back and watch the livestock or explore the beaches, golf, shops, food, and distilleries, The Wee End is the perfect place to rejuvenate during an unforgettable break.
