About this listing
For an unforgettable vacation right on the shoreline, the Old Salmon Bothy offers luxury lodging, impressive sea views teeming with wildlife, and the opportunity to explore the Scottish Highlands.
With a deck that looks out directly on the sea, the Old Salmon Bothy is the perfect place to relax and soak in all the wildlife that the Moray Firth has to offer. Comfortable accommodation makes it easy to enjoy every moment of your Highland vacation. Explore the surrounding area to discover some of Scotland’s gems including peaceful coastal walks, fresh seafood, golf courses, historical sites, and Glenmorangie Distillery.
Nestled into a sandstone ledge, the Old Salmon Bothy is protected from harsh north winds and has been in the same family for three generations. From the cottage, you can embark on coastal walks with breathtaking views, try wild swimming, and admire all manner of local wildlife. During some parts of the year, the northern lights are visible from your doorstep.
Outdoor furniture on the decked patio means that you can spend plenty of time gazing out at the ever-shifting sea. You might spot seals, bottlenose dolphins, minke whales, and possibly even otters. Witness unforgettable sunrises with a cup of coffee in hand. Because the Old Salmon Bothy has its own slipway, you will have access to launch a small boat or kayak. This slipway is also perfect for those who enjoy fishing.
Step inside to enjoy a lounge with plenty of comfortable seating. A wood-burning stove with logs included ensures that everyone stays cozy and warm. Because the Old Salmon Bothy is also equipped with electric heating, you will be warm any time of year. The lounge is fitted out with a DVD/television, an extensive collection of books, and a DVD movie library to help you unwind. Wi-Fi is also included.
When you are ready to turn in for the night, you can take a shower and sink into a generous double bed. A well-equipped kitchen is primed for action complete with a microwave, stove, oven, and everything you might need to prepare a delicious meal. Upon arrival, you will find a welcome selection of goodies.
If you do not feel like cooking every meal, there are some opportunities to experience Scottish cuisine nearby. Because the sea surrounding the Tarbat Peninsula is frequented by local fisherman, fishing their creels, you can feast on freshly caught seafood. Only 10 minutes away, Portmahomack is home to restaurants like the Oystercatcher and the Castle Hotel. The Oystercatcher is a hidden gem that features high quality seafood, alongside traditional Highland dishes with vegetarian options. To soak in sweeping seaside views in a highland pub, check out the Castle Hotel.
Travel a little further to find excellent eateries in the Village of Inver, Tain, and Dornoch. The Inver Inn Bar and Kitchen offers fresh seafood, an admirable whisky collection, and views overlooking Dornoch Firth. Stop in at Greens Restaurant in Tain to enjoy afternoon tea as well as lunch and dinner using locally sourced ingredients. Drive to Dornoch to experience Luigi’s – a café-style restaurant with fare that showcases the local seafood.
Beyond seaside relaxation and delicious food, there is plenty to do near the Old Salmon Bothy. Discover breathtaking views with an abundance of coastal walks accessible directly from your door. Only an eight-minute walk away, you can visit one of the tallest lighthouses in Britain: the Tarbat Ness Lighthouse. Those with a passion for history will enjoy the Tarbat Discovery Centre, Portmahomack where you can uncover ancient Pictish mysteries. Anyone who loves golf will find a magnificent selection of golf courses including the world famous Royal Dornoch Golf Club, Portmahomack, and Tain.  At the Old Salmon Bothy, you have some of the world’s finest distilleries on your doorstep. The famed Glenmorangie Distillery is less than 30 minutes away.
