About this listing
Welcome to The Old House, a beautifully restored stone lodge set amidst the vast, peaceful landscapes of Glen Orchy—one of Scotland’s most breathtaking and unspoilt glens. Originally built in the early 1800s by the Earl of Breadalbane as a private fishing lodge, the house has been lovingly renovated by the Kerr family to offer modern comfort within its historic stone walls. Today, it stands in splendid isolation, surrounded by ancient beech trees, sweeping views and the quiet murmur of the River Orchy below.
The Old House welcomes dogs.
With 7 acres of enclosed private grounds, uninterrupted vistas in every direction and virtually no passing traffic, this is a place where guests can truly hear the sound of silence. Deer wander the hillsides and often cross the garden, while eagles, buzzards and smaller woodland birds circle overhead. By night, the absence of light pollution reveals a spectacular, star-filled sky—perfect for stargazers and dreamers alike.
Inside, the house is warm, spacious and thoughtfully furnished. The extra-large farmhouse kitchen opens into a generous living and dining space, ideal for family meals, slow mornings and relaxed evenings. A wood-burning stove provides the heart of the home, and a starter basket of logs is included. Limited 4G EE Wi-Fi is available for basic browsing and communication.
Sleeping up to six guests, The Old House offers three comfortable bedrooms:
- Master Bedroom – a romantic four-poster bed with en-suite bathroom (bath with shower over, WC, basin and bidet).
- The Green Room – a tranquil twin room.
- The Blue Room – a bright twin room with garden views.
There are three bathrooms in total, including an upstairs family bathroom and a spacious ground-floor wet room—ideal after a day exploring the glen. The well-equipped utility room features a Belfast sink (great for cleaning salmon), freezer, washing machine and ironing facilities. Two large hallways provide ample space for outdoor gear, boots and jackets, alongside a generous drying cupboard with a large hot water tank.
For modern convenience, guests also have access to a Zappi Type 2, 7kW EV charger.
Outdoors, the property’s private land includes tree plantings, open ground and a peaceful garden that invites wildlife to come close. Overlooking the River Orchy—famous for its salmon—the house makes a superb base for walkers, fishermen, botanists, geologists, sabbatical stays and anyone seeking restorative time in nature.
Despite its remarkable seclusion, The Old House is easily reached by road, rail or even helicopter. Oban and Fort William are both within an hour, while Glasgow, Stirling and Perth are around ninety minutes away.
A timeless Highland sanctuary, The Old House offers comfort, history and the rare luxury of true solitude—perfect for couples, families and nature lovers seeking an unforgettable escape.
