About this listing
Groom’s Bell gives you everything needed to rejuvenate in the Scottish Borders, and because it is located in the heart of a wee Scottish village, you are not too far from civilization. Courtesy of the courtyard-style garden, you will still be able to enjoy plenty of privacy. Whether you prefer to settle in or venture out, there is plenty to keep you busy at and around Groom’s Bell.
From the outside, this cottage showcases traditional stonework. Step inside, and you can unwind in modern furnishings with a quirky design twist. In the living area, your party can sink into comfortable couches to enjoy a wood-burning stove, board games, a Smart TV with integrated Netflix and a free WiFi. Even little ones will be able to have fun with the children’s books and toys that are stowed under the television.
Because the living space, dining room, and kitchen feature an open-plan design, everyone will be able to spend time together. The kitchen is equipped with all the essentials and including a dishwasher, oven, and microwave. Coffee lovers can appreciate a coffee machine with Dolce Gusto pods and a cafetière for ground coffee. In addition to an island in the kitchen, your party can dine at a table set for four. If you would prefer to take a break from cooking, there are several nearby eateries. Only a two-minute walk away, The Blackadder Bar and Restaurant features hearty pub food and live music nights.
Outdoor patio furniture and a barbecue grill mean that you can cook and eat in the fresh air. Because a flock of chickens lives on the property, you can enjoy fresh local eggs. Seeing the chickens is often a favorite with children. Bordered on one side by a hedge, the walled garden is a simple grassy area perfect for little ones and dogs to stretch their legs. In the late morning, sunlight floods the terrace and makes it a peaceful place to sip your favorite beverage. Beyond the terrace, you will have access to an extended mature garden.
When your party is ready to settle in for the night, Groom’s Bell features two bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. With enough space for a crib, the master bedroom opens onto a bathroom with a bathtub and a shower. The second bedroom connects to an ensuite shower room. Depending on what works best for your party, both bedrooms can be configured with two twin beds or one super king bed.
To help make sure everyone in your party can relax, Groom’s Bell comes with lots of extras. For when outdoor adventures get too wild, you have access to a washer and dryer. Although cell service can be spotty, Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. From small children to dogs, all members of your family are welcome at Groom’s Bell. Up to two dogs are welcome, but more may come with prior arrangement. Even your bicycles can be stored somewhere that is dry, warm, and lockable.
If your party would prefer to get out and explore Scotland, there is plenty to do and to see from Groom’s Bell. Because it is only one hour away, exploring all that Edinburgh has to offer makes an excellent day trip. Stay within a 30 minute radius, and you can explore Floors Castle, Mellerstain, Manderston, and many other historic houses. You are also about 30 minutes away from several dog-friendly white, sandy beaches.
For those who enjoy both walking trails and historic sites, the Borders Abbeys Way is an unforgettable adventure. If you are a serious hiker, you can immerse yourself in the breath-taking views at the legendary Cheviots. A more intense outdoor experience is possible via Whiteadder Watersports where it is possible to paddleboard, kayak, swim, fish, fly fish, windsurf, or sail. All experience levels are welcome, and lessons are offered. For a family adventure, you can book a voyage on the Drascombe Longboat.
While you are out exploring the Scottish Borders, there are plenty of fantastic restaurants and places to discover. For some local meat and truly succulent beef, travel a few miles to get to Hardiesmill Butchery. Stop there early in your vacation, and you can cook up some scrumptious meals back at the cottage. Travel 14 miles, and you can sample some brew and take a tour at Tempest Brewing Company.
However you prefer enjoy a vacation, Groom’s Bell has you covered. With comfortable furnishings, delightful surroundings, and exciting adventures, a stay at Groom’s Bell means some time away with those you care about most. Bring the kids and the dogs for a vacation where everyone can relax and unwind.
