Greamachorry Cottage
Kinbrace, Sutherland, Scotland
About this listing
For guests seeking a true off grid wilderness escape, total relaxation and an immersive nature stay escape to former Shepherds house Greamachorry on a private 20,000 acre estate near Kinbrace in the Scottish Highlands – immerse yourself in nature where red deer roam, lochans team with trout and stunning walking from your doorstep.
Your highland wilderness escape
Greamachorry Cottage has been sensitively renovated retaining its highland charm having formerly served as the Shepherds house up until the 1960’s on the Achentoul Estate. Superbly cosy with new insulation and full double glazing throughout ensures you’re warm and comfortable in every season. Wide open spaces surround you as your holiday home is sited in one of Scotland’s last wildernesses which reaches far across Caithness and Sutherland also known as the Flow Country.
Sleeping up to 6 guests comfortably in 4 bedrooms the cottage has plenty of room to stretch out. Downstairs is home to a single bedroom, spacious and well-equipped kitchen with gas cooker (four ring hob, oven and grill), electric fridge freezer and breakfast bar. The dining room with a wood fired Rayburn (which also produces hot water for bathroom and kitchen use) offers an ideal room for relaxing family meals and socialising. The Rayburn dispenses with the need for a kettle (as well as being electricity conservative), where in the busiest of worlds, the old ways slow down life just beautifully. The comfortable living room at Greamachorry has a cosy wood burning stove – great to stretch out in front of after a day on the hill where you can catch up on the day’s activities and plan tomorrows adventures. Upstairs the cottage has two comfortable twin bedrooms and one single bedroom. Off-grid living at Greamachorry is a unique experience without compromise -the wood fired Rayburn provides heating and hot water, and a small diesel generator produces around 2kW of electricity for the essentials such as fridge freezer lighting etc with plenty of spare power for charging devices. The pure Highland water at Gremachorry is perfectly safe to drink straight from the hill, a fresh private supply, treated by bonechar filter and UV.
5 star wilderness fun
If fishing is your passion the you will love the fishing opportunities here with trout fishing available on six lochs or try casting a fly for salmon fishing on the world-renowned River Helmsdale (tickets available in Helmsdale for the Association water). Other lochs are widely available locally through nearby Badenloch Estate, Borrobol and Forsinard Flyfishers Club. Hikers and walkers have plenty of opportunity to lace up and head for the hills, go biking or jump in the car with the North Coast 500 close by to explore. Immerse yourself in nature with the opportunity to see red deer from your cottage door, golden eagles and a rich tapestry of wild local flora and fauna on your doorstep. For special nights out the nearest restaurants are located in Helmsdale or Melvich approx. 20 miles drive. For the seafoodies in your party it is often possible to arrange to buy lobster/crab/langoustine direct from boats at local harbours. For guests wishing to dine alfresco don’t forget your charcoal for the BBQ outside.
