Garmoran Square 4 and 5 star accommodation

The four luxury cottages at Garmoran Square offer group accommodation for up to 18 guests or can be booked individually as Somerled, Tioram, Shiel and MacRuairi. Designed to look like traditional croft byres from 100 years ago with a modern twist they sit in beautifulĀ harmony to the local landscape and other buildings made with local stone. The rear of the cottages offer large spectacular glass windows with larch cladding and each cottage has its own deck area with garden furniture to enjoy the well maintained and secure garden area.

Somerled

Sleeping 6 with 3 bedrooms; 2 double and 1 twin (south/west facing), a large lounge, log burner, dining kitchen also with open fire and cloakroom with WC. The bedrooms are all en-suite.

Tioram

Sleeping 6, there are 2 doubles and 1 twin en-suite bedroom (south/south-east facing overlooking Ben Resipole), a large lounge, log burner, dining kitchen, cloakroom with WC.

Shiel

Sleeping 4 Shiel has 2 bedrooms,1 double and 1 twin (south facing overlooking Ben Resipole). It has an open plan loft-style lounge, dining kitchen with 12ft ceiling, log burner, cloakroom with WC. The bedrooms are both en-suite.

MacRuairi

Sleeping 2 in one double bedroom, (east facing) this cosy and large open plan cottage offers a relaxing lounge – dining area, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom with bath/shower. there is also an open fire perfect for relaxing after a day’s adventure.

It comprises of four self catering cottages that have been designed to form a traditional courtyard from the front but with a modern twist maximizing the mountain views at the rear through the huge floor to ceiling windows and internal 12ft ceilings. The 4 & 5 star cottages have a traditional-looking croft exterior that is sympathetic to its surroundings and gives lie to the luxurious, contemporary interiors. All bedrooms have en suite shower or bath room. Ideal for couples, families, walking groups, wildlife parties, and group accommodation situated in Mingarry, Moidart, and gateway to Ardnamurchan, on the picturesque west coast of the Scottish Highlands just one hour from Fort William and within easy reach of the Isle of Mull, Mallaig, Ardnamurchan and the Isle of Skye. Each cottage is unique and has been tastefully decorated with quality fixtures and fittings throughout to ensure your stay is luxurious. Open fires/log burners, solid oak/slate floors, satellite TV, DVDs, CD player, spa baths and controllable under floor heating throughout and with fantastic 12ft ceilings and floor to ceiling windows that frame the stunning scenery.Ā  All bedrooms are en suite, with either bath with over head power shower or walk in power shower. All cottages have a drying room or area for outdoor clothing and equipment, plus a shared outdoor bike shed is provided. Pets welcome by prior arrangement only. On arrival you will find a supply of coal and logs for the fires, all beds made up with quality cotton linen, bath sheets, hand towels and face cloths in the bathrooms and high chairs and cots are available if required. Also in each cottage you will find maps, local area walking books, binoculars, iPod docking stations with speakers and BBQ’s and hair dryers and alarm clocks in each bedroom. With kitchens that have coffee makers, food processor, hand blenders, food mixers, and many, many utensils, you can make dinner as complicated or easy as you like and with Highland stoneware crockery to showcase your culinary skills. Each cottage has its own deck area with outside garden furniture and BBQ, where you can enjoy some alfresco dining and watch the deer in the field next door. At night marvel at our starry sky as there is no light population in Moidart due to there being no street lights.

Enjoy all this within a well-maintained garden that is fenced and gated. Upon arrival you are greeted with a welcome hamper with essential goods and luxury local treats. Master bedrooms have fluffy bathrobes and spa products. This unique sumptuous base for exploring Ardnamurchan, Moidart and Lochaber – the Outdoor Capital of the UK – and a fabulous retreat for those looking to escape the stresses of city life. Five minutes drive from a bakery, grocers, tearoom, hotels, pubs and a restaurant offering great quality food using local produce – life as it used to be but blended with modern convenience. All this set in an idyllic, scenic, rural location, steeped in history, fantastic for walks, cycling, wildlife, fishing and boat trips. Where you can see eagles, otters, deer, seal, red squirrels, herons and plus much more, with many great walks from 20min strolls to all day expeditions and many starting at Garmoran Square or just a short drive away.

The Surrounds

The area is famous for walking – with thousands of square miles of hills, glens, lochs, forests, rivers and a spectacular coastline there is a walk to suit every level of fitness and ability. From marked forestry trails to Munro-bagging expeditions. On the most Westerly point of the British mainland you can visit the Ardnamurchan lighthouse and visitors centre (open from 1 April to 31 October) offering half hourly lighthouse tours. Sanna Bay, with its machair, dunes and silver sand, is a must when exploring Ardnamurchan peninsula and driving east away from Kilchoan back toward Salen takes you through the small hamlet of Glenbeg now home to Ardnamurchan Distillery and the Ardnamurchan Wildlife Centre. At Kilchoan take the ferry to Tobermory and explore Mull home of Balamory or go as a foot passenger direct into Tobermory. You can also take the car to explore Iona, a beautiful island returning via Fishnish on the Lochaline Ferry. Visit Sunart travelling through the ancient coastal oak woods – look out for green forest signs along the road, these show the start of walks most have car parks where you can stop off and have a wander through the woods.

5 star adventures to be had

Visit Resipole Studios a unique art gallery with a fabulous selection of contemporary artists and mediums, another adventures during your stay might be a visit to see the ruins of Castle Tioram once the stronghold of the Clan Ranald.

Taking the infamous A84 Road to the Isles you can visit the fishing village of Mallaig stopping off in Arisaig at the Land, Sea and Island Visitors Centre and Camusdarach beach where Local Hero was filmed. Catch a ferry to the Small Isles of Eigg, Muck and Rum from Arisaig orĀ Mallaig or head over to the sea to Skye and visit the Clan Donald Centre (ferries depart daily from Mallaig). Visit the Glenfinnan Viaduct, which you can cross on the Jacobite steam train also known as the Hogwarts Express as the train and scenery was used in the filming of Harry Potter and stop off at the visitor centre telling the full story of the ’45 rebellion. Fort William is a great day out with many attractions from Ben Nevis the highest mountain in Scotland, Nevis Range with its bike trails and home of the MTB world cup.

Getting here:

By car: from Fort William take the A82 in the direction of Oban. After about 8 miles, shortly before Onich, cross the Corran Ferry to Ardgour. This leaves at a quarter past and a quarter to the hour during the day. On leaving the ferry, turn left and follow the signs for Strontian then on to Salen, Acharacle and on to Mingarry. Garmoran Square is second on the right. Scenic-route: alternatively, if you have more time for the journey and want a more scenic route, head North out of Fort William taking the road to Mallaig and the Isles (A830). From here continue on your journey to Lochailort where you turn off the Road to the Isles and head across hills (A86). You are then heading through Moidart. Go through the fishing village of Glenuig and onto Mingarry, Garmoran Square is the second last house on the left.Ā  When booked together Garmoran Square properties are perfect for Corporate Retreats!
