About this listing

Stay in tranquil luxury in this beautifully converted Victorian Stables set in 20 acres of private gardens and woodland, bursting with native and exotic trees. Adjacent to Corsewall Estate House, where deer run wild, red squirrels and hedgehogs play and little guests can have Swallows and Amazons adventures while grown ups relax in style. Adults will love escaping to this gorgeous two-bedroomed, luxury self-catering stable conversion which comfortably accommodates four guests.

Stables Cottage

This first-floor luxury holiday cottage has a large open-plan sitting room, kitchen and dining area, which is heated by a log-burning stove and biomass heating. There is a double bedroom with a king size bed and pretty, rural views over the walled garden and the woodland; a twin bedroom, and a bathroom with overhead shower. Stables Cottage has its own private garden, with garden furniture and a barbecue.

Gorgeous Surroundings

Located in over 20 acres of gardens and woodland, there are lots of woodland walks and coastal paths right on the doorstep for guests to enjoy. In late January and February, the woods feature charming drifts of snowdrops followed by daffodils and in April and May the hue turns to purple with acres of bluebells. There is colour in the gardens almost all the way through the year starting with camellia from January to March, followed by a riot of colour in April and May as the rhododendrons and azaleas come into flower.  The autumn sees the hydrangeas providing colour all the way through to November. There is oodles of wildlife to spot – from roe deer and hares to barn owls, woodpeckers and most importantly, this area is one of the last bastions of the red squirrel.

Swallows and Amazons style adventures

There are lots of things to keep children and little ones busy on the estate. The woods immediately beside the lawns close to Stables Cottage are a dedicated children’s fun zone with 60 foot zip wire, which has been well tested by children (and some adults) alike.  Next door, there’s also a climbing frame, which comes complete with a climbing wall, lookout house with binoculars to spot pirates/baddies, a very whizzy slide, three swings, including one for toddlers and a terrific back to back glider. Additionally, kids can bounce to their heart’s content on the 14 foot trampoline on the edge of the lawns. There’s a camp fire area in the woods – perfect for toasting marshmallows.  For smaller children, there’s a wendy house with a toy cooker and lots of picnic/cooking paraphernalia and a pretty veranda.

Corsewall Estate has three pretty beaches on Loch Ryan for Stable Cottage guests to enjoy: Boat Bank, Lady Bay and Port Beg. A pretty walk down one of the drives will take you to Boat Bank, which is the nearest one to Stables Cottage.  Both Boat Bank is a wonderful spot if you like collecting shells or pebbles.  Bird watching down on the shores of Loch Ryan or in the woods is second to none.  Lady Bay with its sandy beach is great for paddle boarding or a swim.  Port Beg is a pretty bay, pebbly down to the waterline and then sandy in the sea – ideal for paddling and swimming.

Other Information

The cottage is equipped with a coffee machine, Smart TV, DVD player,  WiFi, a selection of board games, books and classic films. Guests Comments:

“A Christmas To Remember – For the first time in many, many years, all the family couldn’t be together for Xmas so we decided to go off with the dogs and have a different festive occasion. We were a bit apprehensive, but Corsewall Estate soon won us over. Stables Cottage with its real Xmas tree and other festive decorations plus the log fire made it feel just right. Our retrievers thought all their birthdays had come at once – don’t think there was an inch of the beautiful estate they didn’t try to explore! The cottage is well equipped and cosy and Kate and Angus are great hosts. If you value quality, Stables Cottage will not disappoint.”

“Wonderful – We booked Stables Cottage for May half-term, and we were not disappointed. Set on the grounds of a beautiful Scottish estate, close to Stranraer and Loch Ryan, the Cottage was beautifully finished/furnished and we were given a very warm welcome by Kate, Angus, and their dogs Sybil and Struay – who were super friendly with our two small girls!

Kate and Angus had left a really helpful home-made guide to the local area, based on their local knowledge, and this proved invaluable over the week we stayed. Indeed, the welcome pack extended to fresh flowers and chocolate brownies – it was very thoughtfully done.

The location of the cottage was a very short walk to Loch Ryan, or a short drive to Stranraer. We found that everything a family needed was within easy reach.

A particular highlight included being invited to attend a ‘forest ranger’ workshop in the grounds on one afternoon – this included building teepees and making mud faces in the woods and was great fun for children and adults alike. Other must-see attractions included the Mull of Galloway, Logan Botanic Gardens and Killantringan Lighthouse/Beach. The beaches are very sandy and quite child-friendly, though the tides do come in quick! All in all a wonderful location for a short break (either with or without children) in a part of Scotland that is still largely undiscovered. We’re already thinking of booking again in the near future!”

“Fabulous Family Holiday – We had a wonderful stay at Stables Cottage. Kate and Angus made us feel very welcome and the cottage was beautiful. The children (11 and 9) loved the freedom of the grounds, especially the zip wire and trampoline. I would totally this place for a fabulous getaway.”

“Perfect Retreat in Beautiful Surroundings – A really fantastic cottage. Extremely well equipped with lovely décor and a real cosy feel. A real treat to cosy up in front of the log burner after a day out exploring the lovely countryside. Owners are extremely friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.”
