About this listing
A breathtakingly gorgeous “picture-perfect” holiday cottage, luxury accommodation near Stranraer, set in the private woodland grounds of Corsewall Estate.
Total privacy guaranteed at your holiday cottage set in 20 acres of garden woodland, adjacent to Corsewall Estate House bursting with native and exotic trees – here deer run wild, red squirrels and hedgehogs play and little guests can have Enid Blyton adventures while grown ups relax in style.
Home Farm Cottage
The front door of this classic ‘picture-perfect’ luxury holiday cottage leads to an entrance hall off which is a large open plan sitting room to the left, to the right a double bedroom with king size bed and en-suite shower room. Also off the entrance hall is the traditional staircase leading up to two further bedrooms and bathroom on the first floor. The kitchen and dining area is off the sitting room and the kitchen has its own entrance and vestibule from the private car parking area.
The first floor accommodation consists of one double bedroom which can either be arranged as a twin or a super-king, whilst across the landing there is a further single bedroom. Off the landing is the house bathroom.
Gorgeous Surroundings
The estate has a network of wonderful woodland walks and coastal paths for guests to enjoy. In late January and February, the woods feature charming drifts of snowdrops followed by daffodils and in April and May the hue turns to purple with acres of bluebells. There is colour in the gardens almost all the way through the year starting with camellia from January to March, followed by a riot of colour in April and May as the rhododendrons and azaleas – pinks, reds, creams, yellows, purples and white – come into flower. The autumn sees the hydrangeas providing colour all the way through to November. There is oodles of wildlife to spot – from roe deer and hares to barn owls, woodpeckers and most importantly, this area is one of the last bastions of the red squirrel. Walk down to the sea to the shore on Loch Ryan and around Wig Bay and The Scar – a circular walk along Loch Ryan shoreline and back into the village of Kirkcolm. The Scar, a sandbank which juts out into Loch Ryan, is home to one of the largest colonies of nesting migrant terns in the region.
Swallows and Amazons style adventures
There’s lots to keep children and little ones busy on the estate. The estate woods close by have a dedicated children’s fun zone with 60 foot zip wire, which has been well tested by children (and some adults) alike. Next door, there’s also a climbing frame, which comes complete with a climbing wall, lookout house with binoculars to spot pirates/baddies, a very whizzy slide, three swings, including one for toddlers and a terrific back to back glider. Additionally, kids can bounce to their heart’s content on the 14 foot trampoline on the edge of the lawns. There’s a camp fire area in the woods – perfect for toasting marshmallows. For smaller children, there’s a wendy house with a toy cooker and lots of picnic/cooking paraphernalia and a pretty veranda. A stream runs through the estate, so with two stone bridges and an endless supply of sticks, Pooh sticks is always a fun game for children to enjoy.
Corsewall Estate has three pretty beaches on Loch Ryan for Home Farm Cottage guests to enjoy: Boat Bank, Lady Bay and Port Beg. A pretty walk down one of the drives will take you to Boat Bank, which is the nearest one to Home Farm Cottage. Both Boat Bank is a wonderful spot if you like collecting shells or pebbles, while Lady Bay is a lovely beach for swimming and paddle boarding. Port Beg is a pretty bay, pebbly down to the waterline and then sandy in the sea – ideal for paddling and swimming.

Guests Comments:
“We just wanted to say thank you very much for a lovely holiday. We all thoroughly enjoyed it. Your cottage and gardens are beautiful and you and Angus made us feel so welcome. Thank you for being  a small pet surcharge applicable if bringing up to 2 pets with you.so nice to the children too and the welcome pack of food and drink was much appreciated.”
“Fantastic cosy cottage – Our recent stay at Home Farm Cottage was very peaceful and relaxing, just what our family needed. Kate and Angus are very hospitable hosts and are always on hand if needed. I would recommend this cottage to everyone.”
“Did not want to check out and leave – Fantastic renovated cottage, all mod cons whilst remaining comfortable and homely. Visitor pack gave excellent advice on where to visit, both on the estate and locally. We visited about 11 places in the space of a week including Sandhead Beach, Galloway Forest, Portpatrick, Port Logan, Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright to name a few. Accommodation dog friendly and the estate is immense with so much to explore and admire, including overlooking and being able to access Loch Ryan. We booked on a friends recommendation and were not disappointed, in fact it exceeded our expectations and then some. We had a great week and will definitely be returning. Owners are friendly and informative, local supermarkets a short drive away. In short, this estate is a hidden gem as far as we were concerned.”
“We felt that the cottage represents very good value for money – I cannot overstate how luxurious the cottage really is. We cannot wait to return to this little piece of rural paradise in 2019! Thank you Kate and Angus!”
