About this listing

Two romantic turf roofed hebridean hideaways on the magical Isle of Islay, relax in your own sauna or head for a starlit soak in your own private alfresco bathtub.

These five star, turf-roofed hebridean honeymoon hideaways are a perfectly romantic and secluded island escape in the beautiful Islay wilderness. (Sleeps 2-4 guests). Wide, ceiling-high galleried windows offer panoptical sweeping views of the moorland and coast with ever-changing light, where you instantly feel at one with the raw elements and wild beauty of Islay.  Relax over breakfast as you plan your day while catching a glimpse of golden eagle swooping in the sky, chough and red deer roaming the hillside.

Two gorgeous en-suite bedrooms with oak flooring, uber comfy Hypnos beds, light as air sheeps’ wool duvets, goose down pillows and fairly traded organic bedlinen.  The second bedroom can be configured as a superking or twin with en suites which have relaxing neutral desert dune ceramic tiles with double height ceiling, walk-in curved Hans Grohe raindance shower and double-ended bath tub complete with luxury toiletries and robes for your use. Coillabus has its own tweed, commissioned from the nearby Islay woven in the iconic Islay style.

On winter nights there’s a wood-burning stove to curl up beside and board games for some homespun entertainment after a day out on the island. High specification throughout this top-of-the range galley kitchen comes complete with energy-saving appliances and an American-style fridge/freezer, stainless steel Range cooker, dishwasher, microwave and all the utensils you could possibly need. Attention to detail at every turn; Errol furniture, Hans Groh fixtures and toasty Air source under-floor heated Caithness stone floors are joy to pad across.

You just won’t want to leave your turf-roofed hideaway. For the quickest relax step into in your own Finnolme sauna, take a raindance shower or soak in your own outdoor bateau bath “Star Tub” after a long day’s walking, fishing or round of golf. Immerse yourself in relaxation with some in house holistic treatments or massage at Coillabus, from the well qualified visiting therapist.

Located on the island of Islay – Scotland’s whisky isle – Coillabus is just a ten minute drive from the village (and ferry port)  of Port Ellen where you’ll find the nearest pub and restaurant. It’s only ten minutes to Islay airport, Machrie Hotel and Golf course, sandy beaches and 12 minutes from Laphroaig Distillery or there’s Lagavulin and Ardbeg only a mile or so further along the road.

You’re spoiled for choice with the array of local dining out options and great places to take in a spot of supper. If you don’t want to leave Coillabus you can enjoy a freshly prepared Taste of Islay Gourmet Menu cooked, served and cleared away by an award winning chef – or order in a selection of chilled or frozen home cooked meals from the Taste of Bridgend menu. Freshly caught and cooked seafood platters can also be delivered to your door on request.

Islay is known affectionately as the Queen of the Hebrides – A world class destination with miles of sandy beaches, idyllic coastal villages and iconic malt whisky all waiting to be explored. Home to a rich and varied birdlife, sealife and its beautiful flora and fauna. The Lords of the Isles chose Finlaggan as their ancient seat and the intact Celtic cross at Kildalton gives a hint of a rich spiritual heritage.

Visit award winning restaurants, try new watersports, play on a championship golf course at Machrie, go pony trekking, take a sea-safari or wildlife tour, try fishing (both have permits for the Lochs on the Oa), or browse local craft shops. Islay is a place to recharge the soul and reconnect. A magical island with unmatched beaches just waiting to be explored from your hebridean hideaway at Coillabus. Two identical stunning lodges to choose from Coillabus A’ Mhoine Bheag and Coillabus An Cnocan Dubh.

Guests Comments :

“Relaxed and Beautiful – Excellent accommodation. We stayed 5 nights in the West facing lodge and experienced wonderful sunsets over Glenastle Lochs and the Atlantic. Superb facilities, including a sauna, air source heat pump, and everything you could wish for. Ideally located, but then Islay is not a large island to travel. Highly recommended for anyone wishing to get away from it all.”

“Isolated indulgence -Coillabus may take a while to get to, but the reward is big if you want to get away from it all without compromising on comfort: my wife, daughter (1) and I stayed for four nights and very much enjoyed the isolation, weather watching, comfortable beds, panaromas (also from within the sauna) and area (which offers plenty hiking opportunities and other things to do, including the golden mile of peat starting at Laphroig). We also enjoyed the chilled meals from Taste of Bridgend, which are great value and an easy way to have a tasty dinner on your first night.”

“Wonderful Christmas break – Stayed for eight nights over Christmas. The lodge is in a great and very quiet position on the Oa Peninsula. The accommodation is fitted out to a very high standard and the bedrooms are extremely comfortable. During the stay we got to see lots of wildlife (including the eagles) and experience the wonderful Islay scenery. We were so relaxed by the end of the stay that we didn’t want to leave – hopefully we will get the opportunity to return in the not too distant future.”

“Wonderful – This was our first visit to Islay & it is was a wonderful trip including the delightful Cal Mac ferry which is a super way to get to the island & such good value. Coillabus is superb so peaceful & tranquil & everything you could possibly need. Our two dogs enjoyed the fenced in garden & we enjoyed amazing walks on beaches which were deserted.”
