Birds’ Nest is the perfect compromise between a cottage and glamping. It’s small and cosy, but surprisingly light and airy, with coastal-inspired decor that blends traditional with contemporary. The layout is studio-style, with the comfy super-king-size bed situated below remote-control blinds, so you can look up at the stars!

There’s a wet-room with a walk-in shower with a seat and grab-rails and a commercial-grade non-slip floor, with complementary Duck Island Spa products. Cooking space is limited: there’s 2 electric rings; a microwave with grill. We do have a Ninja dual air-fryer, slow-cooker and blender tucked away too and a toaster, coffee machine and milk-frother (plus a selection of Fair Trade coffee syrups and Rare Tea Company and Eden Project teas and coffees to try) and a good-sized fridge-freezer. However, with so many amazing places to eat and drink locally, we’re perhaps better suited to adventurers who just want a good breakfast and an evening snack after a grand day out, rather than gourmet chefs!

We have a range of OS Maps, guide books and a small natural history library, as well as lightweight binoculars to borrow and for the less mobile, there is a pneumatic rollator available to borrow by arrangement. Outside, 7 steps lead to a viewing platform with table and chairs and there’s a portable BBQ too. Parking is right next to the cottage. The access track is un-metalled and better suited to cars with a reasonable ground-clearance, rather than sports-cars.

Carrick Shore is a lovely, safe and sheltered little beach that’s perfect for swimming, fishing and, paddle-boarding and boating. The local area is full of places to explore, from historic homes to forest parks, charming little towns, still full of independent shops and great places to eat and drink.
