5 Star Fun

Skye is also known as Scotland's "Dinosaur Isle". It is positively rich in fossils from the middle Jurassic era. Neolithic structures can be found across the island. Culturally there is a strong tradition of folk music and Gaelic language. Thistles on Skye gives guests a luxurious and secluded base - they can choose complete relaxation, immerse themselves in the Gaelic culture and historical connections to Bonnie Prince Charlie or explore the many walking and climbing options: from The Cuillins to Camasunary Bay, MacLeod's Table to The Old Man of Storr.

The whole island is easily accessible from Thistles on Skye, visit local exhibitions, studios and galleries galore where you can meet tanners of sheepskins, dyers of wool, weavers, knitters, potters and artists. Take a wild swim in the crystal clear waters where the gulf stream makes the experience invigorating but a little less chilly than normal Scottish water temperatures then enjoy a warming dram as the sun sets.

A great destination for wildlife watching with the white-tailed sea eagle at the top of bird watchers' lists. Otters, seals, whales, dolphins and red deer are just some of the other impressive creatures that can be seen on and around the Isle of Skye. Home of the MacCrimmons, the ancient masters of the bagpipes, the island is also home to Clan MacDonald and Clan MacLeod both having their Clan Castles on the island. Wave a magic fairy flag, stumble upon the fairy pools, take a day trip to St. Kilda or a glimpse into the life of The Giant MacAskill at his tiny but dedicated museum.

Couples won't want to tear themselves away from this magical holiday destination with so much on offer; exploring, walking, fresh local seafood, cultural events or a romantic night in from your base at The Croft at Thistles on Skye.
