  • For special occasions book into the world-famous Three Chimneys restaurant near Dunvegan.

  • Skye has a denser population of Golden Eagles than anywhere else in Britain - keep a keen eye out for the magnificent white-tailed Sea Eagle. Both these birds can be spotted in the area around Carbost and Glenbrittle.

Total relaxation

For total relaxation and privacy Calath offers a true luxury self-catering escape only 20 minutes walk from the village of Carbost on the west coast of Skye. An ultra modern house designed by the award winning architects Dualchas sleeping up to 8 guests has three spacious double bedrooms, two with king size beds and one twin room with two singles. There are also two additional "foldaway" single beds available. The downstairs en-suite offers the luxury of a large bath for two while upstairs there's an additional toilet and shower room.  A large open plan dining/lounge area with watersedge jaw-dropping views across Loch Harport, taking in a sweeping vista of the whole of the Cuillin Ridge.

Superbly equipped

A superbly equipped kitchen with large oak table seats up to eight comfortably and is perfect for family gatherings and get-togethers. High quality appliances throughout include a five-burner gas hob, an electric oven, microwave, fridge and full size dishwasher with sleek black granite worktops. Step out after dinner onto the patio with doors leading directly from the dining area - a perfect social space to take in the stunning west coast sunsets or breakfasting in the morning sun.

Commanding views

Huge picture windows frame the view of the mountains from the lounge where you will find a cosy wood burning stove set on a granite hearth with beautiful oak flooring. A supply of wood for the wood-burning stove is provided for your use. An iPod compatible music system lets you stream your music and there's also an LCD TV with SKY Free-view channels and a DVD player for in - house entertainment. Free Wi-Fi and a complimentary phone allows for free local and national calls in the evenings after 6pm and at weekends for guests use.

Pad over warm floors with under floor heating throughout the lower level and heated radiators keeps Calath cosy during your stay. Upstairs there is a guest relax / seating area - a perfect workspace or studio so don't forget to bring your paints or sketchbook. You'll be hard pushed to beat the view of the loch from here. Some fitness equipment has been thoughtfully provided if a morning or early evening workout beckons.

A Walkers Paradise. Explore the magic of Skye

Just nine miles from Sligachan and ten from Glenbrittle, Calath is perfectly located for keen walkers access points for various walking routes to the Cuillins. Experienced hillwalkers and rockclimbers can tackle challenging ascents, whilst gentler walks can be enjoyed into the corries around their bases and also the many spectacular coastal routes the area has to offer.

Steeped in rich and romantic history from plentiful prehistoric remains, through to the many castles dating from the times of clan warfare Skye has much to discover. Visit Dunvegan Castle, seat of the clan Macdonald and many other historical points of interest in the surrounding area. Learn about the waving of the Fairy Flag, the fairy pools or visit Sabhal Mor Ostaig the Gaelic college for a taster session on the Gaelic language.

Skye has a denser population of Golden Eagles than anywhere else in Britain, and these have been joined in recent years by the even larger and more magnificent white-tailed Sea Eagle. Both these birds can be spotted in the area around Carbost and Glenbrittle. Don't be surprised is you spot a buzzard or heron from the windows at Calath. Its uniquely private location lends itself perfectly to birdwatching and observing the local wildlife in its natural habitat.

Dining out and fresh seafood

Your spoiled for choice with the array of excellent dining out options within easy reach of Calath. Choose to visit the world-famous Three Chimneys Restaurant, or sample some local Skye Ales at the Stein Inn the oldest inn on Skye at Lochbay. The Old Inn at Carbost is just a 20 min walk from the property and there's a great selection of cafes and restaurants in the nearby town of Portee. Skye is known for its seafood, scallops, langoustines and fresh fish hauled straight from the boats to the table.

Calath offers total tranquility and luxury surroundings being close enough to access excellent dining out options, the many historical attractions in the area and plentiful walking without compromise on privacy or it's stunningly natural setting.

Short Breaks :

During the main season April to Oct the minimum booking is for 7 nights (Sat-Sat) Nov to March short breaks of 4 nights are available on a nightly rate.
