Your shoreline retreat

Beautiful furnishings inside and out, alfresco dining on the verandah and gorgeous use of space where sunlight streams in from every angle. The houseĀ was totally converted from a boathouse to a luxury holiday home and now comprises a double bedroom with ensuite bathroom, a herculean sized living room and social space with large open fire with two twin bunk beds for the youngsters at the back of the sitting room. All linen and towels are supplied, as are logs for the open fire and here is also aĀ barbeque for use on the terrace and deckchairs. It isĀ the ultimate highland hideaway for romantics, and family getaways.

The kitchen has a beautiful aga, gas hob, larder fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and drier, and all the gizmos and gadgets you could wish for from your ā€˜home from home’ with family and friends. Gaze out from the table where you can see through a window to the original boathouse below and a door leads straight onto the terrace. Breakfast outside is a delight as you will never tire from the ever changing light and scenery on your doorstep. Toasty warm inside and very comfortable, with endless supply hot water and a large bathroom to relax in after a days walk you wont want to leave. Whether sitting inside or out on the terrace, the sea is always just in front of you, with the sound of the waves mesmerisingly close.

The grounds at Roshven Boathouse

Set within 38 acres of grounds belonging to Roshven House the boathouse offers a secluded retreat with unparalleled tranquillity and beauty in all seasons. Wooded hills, tracks and burns, and extensive rhododendron bushes provide a spectacular, show of colour in all seasons. Shared only with a huge variety of wildlife, including roe deer, red deer, badgers, foxes and pine martens. Common seals bask out in the bay, porpoises are frequent visitors, killer whales can occasionally be spotted from the shoreline, and the area is home to numerous species of birds. This is the perfect retreat for guests who enjoy wild swimming where you can step outside onto your own beach and take to the waters. If you head out early enough you might just catch an otter breakfasting at dawn or sunset.

Named after the nearby peak of Rois-Bheinn, Roshven Boathouse sits on the rugged southern shore of Loch Ailort, surrounded by breathtaking perfect postcard material. Heather-covered hills run down to a coastline dotted with picturesque islets and islands discreetly screened by lush woodlands and vast stretches of rhododendron bushes.

Activities in the area

Blessed with an amazing natural playground, some of which can be seen from the windows. On hand, you have the choice of the fantastic beaches of white coral sand for picnics and coastal walks. For climbers and/or walkers, a choice of around a dozen Munros (3000-footers) within a 15-mile range of Roshven. You won’t need climbing gear for most hill walks, even if you select Ben Nevis itself,Ā but you’ll need to allow approx. 5 hours if you plan to tackle Ben Nevis. Golfers should try a round on one of the world’s most picturesque machair golf courses, Traigh, on the Mallaig road, with the isles and the sands of Morar to the west and a backdrop of mighty peaks. There’s fishing galore: hill loch trout; sea-fishing on a truly heroic scale if you care to; salmon fishing, allowing a little forward planning.

Roshven House – you”ll be hard pushed to find a more wildly beautiful location and truly relaxing stay; where you instantly fall into the rhythm of nature.

Booking information and rates:

The boathouse can be booked for a minimum of seven days at Ā£220 per night anytime of the year (starting on Saturday), check in time is 4.30 pm and check out time is 10.30 am and there is a non-refundable deposit of 25%.

Getting Here:

By car, go to Fort William. (Roshven is a 3 hour drive from Glasgow, 3.5hr from Edinburgh and 2hr from Inverness). Then take the ā€˜road to the isles’ A830 through Corpach, Glenfinnan to Lochailort. Here turn left on the A861, go 5 miles to Roshven, a further 400 meters you will see stone gates on the right. Turn down towards Roshven House. Satnav; PH38 4NB is the postcode.

By train: The Scotrail sleeper leaves Euston in London at 9.15pm and arrives 25 milesĀ from Roshven away in Fort William at 9.45am the next morning. Great way to travel. The Glasgow line goes all the way to Mallaig, so only 5 miles from the house to the nearest station, Lochailort.

Flying: Glasgow has good flights, and its a fairly straight forward 3.5 hour drive up past Loch Lomond and through Glencoe. Inverness is closer with twice daily flights available.
